Both authors read a section from their novels and both spoke a little bit about their different modes of publication. The audience, which was composed mostly of aspiring writers, asked numerous questions about writing, self-publishing, traditional publishing (Mike Foy), and marketing. Thanks to the Plymouth Library's generosity and PR, this was the most succesful library event to date for Daniel. The very generous honorarium will be used to purchase books.

Reading and Signing at the Clarksburg Public Library
Daniel traveled along route 2W to get to the Clarksburg Town Library. It was a lovely trip to a wild part of the State he'd never been to before. Along the way he paid a quarter to look through some binoculars at the mountains he was passing through. He also stopped at an Indian Trading Post and bought some antique post cards. About ten people attended and enjoyed some lovely desserts, courtesy of the library. Only one writer was in attendance. The rest of the audience consisted of interested readers.
The Clarksburg Library also gave Daniel a very generous honorarium for his troubles.

Among those present at this reading was the English teacher who encouraged Daniel to publish My Dog, The Meat Eater. At least one of the people present said they were there because they had heard Daniel's interview on WJDA (see below).
Live Interview on WJDA, AM 1300, Quincy, MA w/Joe Catalano
Monday, August 23, 2004
This was literally Dan's fifteen minutes of fame, at least for the Quincy, MA area. Most of the interview went very well, but Dan responded to one question with what could be considered incorrect information. If you weren't listening, you probably will never know about that particular mistake.

Book Discussion on My Dog, The Meat Eater at the Brockton Public Library. Monday, August 9, 2004
Twenty-four people ranging in age from 17 to sixty-something (and possibly more) came to enjoy the free pizza and discussion of problems of living and eating, relationships between living species, and consciousness of the details of our lives evoked by reading the book. People showed interest in the ways autobiographical stuff was altered and woven into the fictional story taking place primarily at a local farm in Brockton, which is clearly the inspiration for the tie-manufacturing city of Benson. The word "deep" was used by several people to describe issues raised by My Dog, The Meat Eater, and the author was pleasantly surprised by the enthusiastic reception of his book by open-minded seniors in attendance. This mid-summer showing was one of the more successful of the recent book discussions sponsored by Brockton librarians who work tirelessly to encourage reading.
